Kees Keizer Add this story to Scoopit!.

The NZ Herald has an interview with the secret taper – Mr Kees Keizer. He claims it was all a sort of spur of the moment thing. As Tui says yeah right.

Speaking publicly for the first time, Mr Keizer said he came up with the idea to tape MPs at the cocktail party before National’s August conference on the spur of the moment

Yes of course. You’re sitting around a Friday planning what to do for the weekend, and you think hey I’ll go a cocktail party of a party I despise and try and tape them all. Of course that was spur of the moment, and wow I just happened to have a tape recorder in my pocket.

Mr Keizer said he took a digital recorder and had “legitimately” entered the conference by paying for a ticket – although he would not say what name he used.

Which is admitting he purchased it under false pretences.

Once Mr Keizer was in, he said he used his real full name and said he was interested in joining the Young Nats.

Actually he said he was a Young National, according at least one person who talked to him.

Mr Keizer has drip-fed the tapes to TV3 political editor Duncan Garner and refused to comment when asked if there would be more before the election. Mr Garner has indicated there could be more.

And of course something you do on the spur of a moment as a prank, you leak selectively to TV3 by anonymous e-mail timing each one for maximum political damage.

Mr Keizer said he had not edited the recordings to change the context but rather to keep his voice secret. He refused to release the full recordings so this could be tested.

And this tells us all we need to know. Now that his identity is known, there is no reason for him not to release a full recording. And the ethics of any media organisation that runs a selective extract will beyond doubt be tested with the Broadcating Standards Authority.

It was one thing to accept partial recordings when the sender was anonymous and wanted to keep his identity secret. But there is no ethical reason why TV3 could accept a partial recording now his identity is known. Doing so would indicate partisan motives rather than journalistic ones.

He said while he had friends and connections in the Labour, including those on the Labour-affiliated website The Standard, he also had friends in National too.

The Standard is the website where a blogger calling himself Batman posted about John Key’s supposed links H-Fee. That blogger is believed to be a senior official, most likely party president Mike Williams, although he has denied it was him.

The chances that his mates at The Standard don’t know all about it are nil, and as many of them are ministerial and parliamentary staffers, you can be sure Labour knows exactly what is in the tapes.

“I’d like to just absolutely confirm that I’m not a member of any political party and I’ve not been put into this by any political party or organisation.”

Of course he was not put up to it. The thought that Helen sits on the 9th floor ordering such tapings is ridicolous. But look at what he has not denied – that he has kept Labour informed of what is in the tapes, so they can plan their campaign around them.

Mr Keizer said his complaint about the EMA advert – made just days before the cocktail party – was not linked to Labour, but rather that he “wanted to learn more about the Electoral Finance Act and saw this as an opportunity.”

Now if anything confirms Keizer as an unmitigated liar, it is this statement. He complained about the EMA advert as an opportunity to learn more about the EFA!!!

“What you heard was genuine, there was no editing specifically to have it so it was in misleading quotes.” …

Mr Keizer said he would not be releasing the entire tape.

“Most of it is useless. It wouldn’t do any credit to anyone.”

So if he is telling the truth, why wouldn’t he release the full tape to show the full answers and what he said to elecit those answers? There is only one logical reason.

No doubt Mr KK is part of the Aunty Helen Kookoo bear club! Secret agent KKK.

  2. spector (168) Says:

Duncan Garner – you’ve been made to look like a total twat. No Qantas award for you this year.

  3. Glutaemus Maximus (2,207) Says:

Just like the young ‘Lady’ who Google Bombed John Key had never had any connections to Labour ever!

Did it just for a bet/laugh.

Who was the sad old Irish Tosser on the TV last Night reckons that National rigged the txt/phone vote?

He had known Helen Clark a long time, and what a warm soft lovely human being she was really.

FFS, the man must just love attack dogs!! And Feral Cats.

Or he draws huge fees as an advisor. The other point is, he decried negative campaigning and then had to specifically make

the point about a non disclosed search into funding for the first flatmate. WTF, as if that in itself wasn’t negative.

They are all envious, screwed up, inadequate individuals who milk the system for their own personal gains, and nepotic affiliates.

    Bastards.

I see Steve Pierson, aka Clinton Smith over at the Lap Blog has gone into damage control and sprouted off about a 1000 words as to how he “only just found out about it”

I feel a Tui Advert coming on. If DG over at TV3 releases any more “secret tapes” now im laying a complaint with the electorial comission as he hasn’t registered as a Labour 3rd party for electionaring purposes.

  5. coventry (288) Says:

Made me laugh this AM, when it came out that Helen & Co hadn’t asked treasury for any figures on the costing of the ‘Universal Student Benefit’, anyone got a darts board, I wanna make some figures up.

And as for Mr KK, twat.

  6. Redbaiter (13,197) Says:

This repugnant poseur Keiser is of the type that has made a basket case of Holland, and unable to learn from his mistakes there, comes to this country with the same destructive political intent. Piss off back to your European basket case slum Keiser. NZ Colonials don’t need sneaking deceitful cowards like you or your mentally deficient Marxist crap.

  7. ross (1,454) Says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if National’s support has risen as a result of this clown’s actions. Further releases before the election? John Key will be thinking to himself “bring them on”.

  8. Inventory2 (7,585) Says:

Why is he not releasing the full tape? Because that would expose him even more as a liar, who used deceitful practices to elicit the replies he wanted.

As I noted on the General Debate thread (I won’t double-link-whore!!), Keizer is not a New Zealand citizen, so a review of his immigration status might well be in order.

  9. Redbaiter (13,197) Says:

“No Qantas award for you [Garner] this year.”

Don’t count on it. This kind of deceitful bullshit rates highly with the peanut heads who dish out those awards.

  11. Marc (25) Says:

Duncan Garner how about cheacking this out ?????

Has anyone in the media ever thought of finding out whether Helen Clark is actually MARRIED ?
A question has been asked over the last few days about why she is not publicly displaying a WEDDING RING?
She has often referred to her HUSBAND?
She deliberately changed her TITLE from MRS to this MS?
    Is she legally MARRIED?
Does she have a MARRIAGE certificate to prove it?
Is it all part of a sham claiming she is MARRIED or when she not ?

ITS ALL ABOUT TRUST BUT HAS SHE DUPED US ALL??

[DPF: The lack of a ring and surname change does not mean someone is not married. As hundreds attended her wedding I think this conspiracy theory can join the Obama was not a US citizen ones]

Garner needs to release the tapes again. It will be the Coup de Grace for him, Labour, the EFA, and tv3!

    Bring it on.

  14. Mark (407) Says:

Kees Keizer has just exposed himself as another leftie who is a complete and utter lair with no moral standards.

Typical of a Labour party supporter.

  15. Redbaiter (13,197) Says:

“Thank you Kees Keizer for exposing the dupliicity”

Oh dear, poor ickle diddums is concerned with “duplicity”.

If you want duplicity lamer, look no further than your precious Labour party, pushing the lie that they’re centrists when on the night they were elected they celebrated around the parliament house piano with a rousing rendition of “The Internationale”, aka keep “The Red Flag Flying” aka the “Communist Anthem”.

The little yellow backed cur Keiser should take his tape recorder to a Labour Party meeting, except he wouldn’t dare expose the truths that he would observe there.

  16. Yeti (64) Says:

I think Ross at 10:14 has made a good point. The exposure of Kees should show to many that this was a stunt and his refusal to release the tapes should be questioned.

If anything, the outing of the taper should add a little boost to National. I can’t see it helping Labour in any way.

  17. tknorriss (306) Says:

    Coolas, you are an idiot.

If there was any validity at all to the Keizer tape then he would release the full tape. This would be a slam dunk that would bury any arguments that National raised about context. The fact that he is unwilling to even release the questions he asked shows that he has deliberately distorted the responses for his own ends. If you can’t see that, then you are beyond help.

  18. getstaffed (7,939) Says:

National has a problem with being up front about its intentions

Bullshit. It’s one thing to have privatly held views which are open to interpretation, compromise and change, and something completely different to have collective held policy which is published. All policy positions *should* start with a range of views, the wisdom of which is combined and the gaps/omissions fixed.

Taking individual opinions coerced by asking leading questions and then holding the results up as proof positive of the road ahead is just stupid.

While we’re on about ‘intentions’, what exactly is Labours hidden agenda for the Dec-08 mini-budget? Tax increases? Restructuring welfare? Extending the EFA to include blogs?

  19. PhilBest (5,042) Says:

Redbaiter and TKNorriss are right. Coolas is an idiot and Kees Kaizer AND the media AND the Heleban are scum.

When anything with a whiff of political espionage happens TO Labour instead of their political enemies? The media show their colours THEN, don’t they? The snivelling scum are guilty up to their eyeballs in the Heleban’s secret agendas past and current.

Mr Keizer none of what you did was worthy of our trust. And you are Labour.

Sneaking into a conference, covertly bugging some casual conversations, lying about yourself and then coming out & putting your stupid mug on TV a few days out from an election. All of this makes the Labour Party look underhanded and untrustworthy and really stupid.

Thank you Mr Keizer, your actions and timing whittle more of the trust factor away from Labour.

  21. Gulag Archipelago (162) Says:

Kees Keizer is a lying scumbag.

  22. goodgod (1,363) Says:

After his story that cleared Winston of all wrong doing, and now this collaborative crap, Patrick Gower goes on my list of journalists who lie by omission.

What the fuck is wrong with these people? Why do journalists love socialism and the left? Do they reckon that they’ll always have a breathless story to write? It’s pathological.

  23. peanut (139) Says:

    Coolas,

How ironical you say the duplicity has been exposed.

Duplicity means deceit, deception or fraud.

Releasing edited versions of a taped conversation is the pinnacle of duplicity!!!!

    Ha,ha, you a such a dick.

  24. Gulag Archipelago (162) Says:

There is no freedom of conscience in the Labour party, you do what you are told.

  25. Kimble (3,148) Says:

KK is a liar and a fraud.

Naturally, he is a Labour supporter.

  26. Murray (8,793) Says:

Even TV3 acknowledged he was campaigning for Labour. Election expenses return and authorisation statement please.

  27. virtualmark (1,244) Says:

I suspect that the initial recording damaged National’s support. The way it was presented and spun meant that National looked dodgy, and I’d think they took a hit.

But as time has gone by and it’s become clearer that these tapes came from an organised attempt to frame National MPs by a deceitful partisan then I think sympathy has swung towards National. And I suspect that over the last few months the average Kiwi has got sick and tired of Labour’s unrelenting focus on smear and personal attacks, and these most recent tape releases have turned even more voters off Labour and back towards National.

So Kees, keep them coming boy. You’ve been outed as a left-wing lackie. Any more tapes you release just hammers home the Left’s lack of real answers and its cancerous and corrosive focus on the negative. John Key’s shown relentless optimism and positiveness in the face of all the Left’s desperate attacks, and the more the Nats can accentuate that comparison of his positivity and your cynical mean-spirited deceitfulness the better.

  28. Kimble (3,148) Says:

The Standard, Batman, KK, and the Labour party in general have lowered the standards of political discourse in NZ.

Labour gained power by muck raking and touting a whole bunch of lofty goals (that were steadily forgotten as it turned out that they didnt really have any policies to bring them about.)

This Labour government have nothing to offer and probably never did. Their time in charge is replete with verfied scandal and unprosecuted fraud, all of which could be forgiven if they actually achieved anything worthwhile.

But all they have achieved in their time at the top was to feather their own beds.

Thankfully it just shows the Right to be above that sort of thing.

National come out of all of this smelling like roses to anyone who isnt already opposed to them for childishly ideological reasons.

National actually gives a shit about New Zealand, Labour doesnt give a shit about anyone or anything and are only interested in staying on top.

Remember Labour is the party that has royally fucked the NZ economy for the next decade, and that Cullen actually GLOATED about it.

  29. virtualmark (1,244) Says:

Hey Duncan … are you going to track down your “source” Kees, shine a light in his eyes and ask him some probing questions about his links to the trade unions and Labour staffers? Are you going to confront Helen and ask what she knew of each tape before they were released (why did she think the most-recent tape was a “cracker” even though it hadn’t been aired?).

Yeah, thought not. You’re a lazy disgrace. A real journalist would chase the story behind the story. You seem to be just a lightweight who can only work with stuff that falls into your lap. Even if it means you’re getting used by other people’s vested interests.

Surely TV3 could do better. Surely Bill Ralston must be being driven to even more drink as he sees what’s become of TV3′s political gallery. Cause I sure can’t imagine Bill treating this story in such a patsy way as you have.

    You’ve been pwned.

  30. side show bob (3,660) Says:

I’m off to sort some bulls out as they are getting randy and they all want a jump, it’s a pity Mr Keizer dosen’t live around here. I would invite him for a day out on the farm and he should have no fear of getting covered in shit, I have some nice red overalls he can wear.

  31. Jack5 (2,584) Says:

Redbaiter writes: ” “No Qantas award for you [Garner] this year.” Don’t count on it. This kind of deceitful bullshit rates highly with the peanut heads who dish out those awards.”

The Qantas awards are a joke. Two main national TV companies, one state owned, the other (TV3) even further left. Prime a tiny bit player and a bunch of part-time provincial stations, sometimes using journalism students for their news. Yet TV1 and TV3 trumpet their Qantas awards. What a con!

  32. markm (43) Says:

I sent a very strong email to Duncan Garner expressing my displeasure that TV 3 chose to show the tape.
I was most impressed that Duncan had the guts and courtesy to respond , which he did in a nice manner.

He pointed out that he dosent take a partisan view and mentioned the tough line he took on Benson Pope.

I now dont care if any further tapes are shown as it is pretty clear that the tapes have back fired badly for labour and I look forward to Helens concession speech on Saturday when she will admit to making her first mistakes in 30 years

[DPF: I think it is to Duncan's credit he does respond]

  33. dime (4,319) Says:

this guy as been as helpful to labour as the brethren were to national.

typical though – a stinkin euro socialist with standard issue leftist beard.. does he have a lisp too?

  34. Bok (740) Says:

DG is not a journo. His integrity is non-existent and his research shallow. His employer is the worse off for it.
He reminds me of a fisherman who, during the Furuno fishing contest years ago, courtesy weighed a Marlin (The first to be weighed at Pah Farm). He told every-one his 12 year old son caught it. It was proved within an hour or so that he in fact found the fish drifting already dead out at sea. He weighed it for the glory! I always felt sorry for his son, knowing your dad is so low as to lie for glory and then drag you into it as well. DG and his reporting is on a par. He thought it would make him look good, he knew that it was dodgy and unprofessional, yet he could not help himself. Like the fishing cheat, he will always know that he was caught out, but also like the son, he was stupid enough to be used.

Shame, I feel sorry for him. remember DG is the one, who is now known by most Kiwis, as either so stupid, or so easily bought. And like the fisho’s, he cannot undone what he did.

  35. Redbaiter (13,197) Says:

“He pointed out that he dosent take a partisan view and mentioned the tough line he took on Benson Pope.”

Hahahhahahahah ahahahahahah ahhahaha hahaha.. Jezuz, thanks for the laff of the day. Such “equivalent” circumstances aren’t they??

  36. Lee (627) Says:

Cripes, and grumpyoldhori whines about ME “interfering” in NZ politics for doing nothing more than exercising my legal right to vote!

The sheer arrogance and duplicity of this guy is appalling.

  37. Buggerlugs (1,609) Says:

Keizer’s mother is a nutbar who writes regularly and incoherently to the Southland Times. Let’s take one of her quotes from a letter to the editor in February this year:

“There is enough crime in the world already; please do not encourage people to commit more.”

Using her son’s selective quoting rationale, she is clearly encouraging people to vote for National and get rid of the thieves on the Treasury benches.

  38. Jack5 (2,584) Says:

National can learn from kreepy kreizer’s lyin and spyin. The left has plenty more scumbags like him.

First at national conferences instead of simple paper registration it would be easy with cheap current technology to take a quick digital pic of everyone who signs in and give them a nice card to wear with their pic plus name on the card, and National would have a record. When they next went to register a meeting they would need enter only their fullname and the person registering them would have an onscreen pic to check them against.

Second it would be helped by a few counter-spy volunteers who will check the membership database regularly for leftwing saboteurs and put out a danger list, with pictures. Near election time especially one could be a monitor at registration desks. Counter-dirty tricks would be a routine task.

Third, MPs should learn always to be cautious before opening up to strangers, especially those who haven’t been introduced to them by a reputable party member.

Fourth, remember what a bastard Garner is.

I sent a very strong email to Duncan Garner expressing my displeasure that TV 3 chose to show the tape.
I was most impressed that Duncan had the guts and courtesy to respond , which he did in a nice manner.

He pointed out that he doesn’t take a partisan view and mentioned the tough line he took on Benson Pope.

I also had a decent reply from Duncan, and he points out that he has scored a few hits on Labour MP’s over the last couple of years, Benson Pope, Tamihere etc.
I think Duncan has a point, if you think back, I guess at election time it is easy to feel slighted.
Like Markm, I don’t give a toss if KK & Duncan do the tape thing tonight, who cares, very helpful to National.
Could Duncan be a closet NAT??? & using KK???
No I don’t think so either.
Perhaps Duncan is just doing his job as he sees it, with no particular bias.
But its all good from here on in.

  40. Brian Smaller (3,554) Says:

“Perhaps Duncan is just doing his job as he sees it, with no particular bias.”

    Just doing it sloppily.

  41. Brian Smaller (3,554) Says:

I have to say the thing that irritates me most about Duncan Garner is the weasely way he leans forward and hunches his shoulders when he talks. He is a dead ringer for Grima Wormtongue in the LoTR movies.

  42. Bok (740) Says:

As for KK, you have to feel sorry for him. What a sad, sad loser.

  43. Buggerlugs (1,609) Says:

Bok – don’t feel sorry for him. He’s a four letter word beginning with C.

  44. musthafabuck (100) Says:

Yes well Brian if he is doing his job in a sloppy manner, his employers will give him the BIFF I guess.
In the meantime he is past being able to do harm to National.

  45. virtualmark (1,244) Says:

If I was TVNZ, locked in competition with TV3, and hearing rumours that there may be yet more “secret tapes” coming on TV3 over the next day or two then I’d be going all-out to dig the story on Kees Keizer.

I doubt TV3 and Duncan Garner are interested in running a probing story on Kees Keizer because it’ll reflect badly on them.

But TVNZ should be going for gold here, in an attempt to completely steal TV3′s thunder and take the “we’re the ones who’ll get you the real story” angle.

TV3 would look like complete twats if they run another Kees Keizer deceit special while at the exact same time TVNZ is exposing his links to the unions and to Labour party members. TV3′s credibility would be completely in the toilet. Which has got to be attractive for TVNZ.

  46. musthafabuck (100) Says:

There you go, thanks virtualmark, thats the way to do it.
All the vitriol spouted here (even for the right reasons) will not get justice.
But competing TV networks may well do.
I imagine some of the comments here tomorrow would be pretty smug if TV1 shot down Duncan tonight, eh.

  47. francis (711) Says:

I hope Gower’s holding back for a followup. Pretty weak as the story stands.

  48. adc (517) Says:

As any network admin knows, you can’t rely on border security. Trying to stop “spies” at the door is a doomed strategy. Let alone the media furore it would cause.

Would be better if MPs were reminded that they should not say anything they would not have publicly aired.

As for the line of logic from Klark. By her reasoning, if BEs personal opinion a National policy makes, we should lock up all of Labour for their pugilistic attitudes, since Mallard Fizz already showed us that all Labour are a bunch of thugs.

  49. Hagues (711) Says:

“He pointed out that he dosent take a partisan view and mentioned the tough line he took on Benson Pope.”
    and
“I also had a decent reply from Duncan, and he points out that he has scored a few hits on Labour MP’s over the last couple of years, Benson Pope, Tamihere etc.”

First of all getting tough with Benson Pope and scoring a few hits on him…. I thought we were supposed to be talking about news journalism.

Tamihere was all Ian Wisharts doing, didn’t see Duncan break any story there.

  50. jackp (664) Says:

If Duncan Gardner was a true professional, he would do some background on Keizer. Hopefully there should be a background on this guy. But I assume Ian Wishart will be the only investigative reporter that will do it. Duncan Gardner should be going after the truth, not ratings. If Keizer wasn’t affiliated with any parties, why didn’t he do the same to Labour? We could find out that Labour intends to take away the tax cuts they promised and increase bureaucracy in their announcement in December should they win. Duncan Gardner is a self seeking up the corporate ladder news caster. He is also very lazy. Don’t like the guy.

  51. ross (1,454) Says:

    > I look forward to Helens concession speech on Saturday when she will admit to making her first mistakes in 30 years..

Oh, no, she won’t be seen making a concession speech. Not when there are deals to be made with all and sundry. And any mistakes won’t have been made by her, it will be someone else’s fault if Labour do poorly.

  52. Suzanne (26) Says:

As usual Duncan lets his professionalism be over ridden by his own bias. He is someone i would ever interview with or help him with anything. He needs to learn abit from his work ates who are professiona, dedicated. If you get to read this Duncan perhaps you should take stock of your responsibility as a media person.

Redeem yourself and do your work properly. We dont wont any bias.
